Across the globe, companies have made Small Business Server 2003 the cornerstone of their IT infrastructure and it has proven a highly robust platform.

However, at the end of 2013, SBS 2003 will reach the end of its product lifecycle.

The Microsoft Support Lifecycle (MSL) is generally ten years and as such, Small Business Server 2003 will be resigned at the start of 2014.

That is not to say that SBS 2003 will stop working; however without Microsoft offering active support, the shelf life of the product will be limited.

What does this mean?

From 2014, Microsoft will stop issuing security updates and patches for SBS 2003, rendering it highly vulnerable to attack. Issues could arise if there are technical problems that require development support from Microsoft. Should a serious problem arise, there would be no route for Microsoft Partners to resolve it.

Whether your business chooses to replace the current platform with another solution or migrate to the cloud, one thing is for certain – complacency is not an option and for businesses which value the security of data, the upgrade is an essential one!

With 2014 rapidly approaching, if you haven’t already done so, you should be taking proactive action to ensure that when support draws to a close, you are ready for it!

Don’t leave it until the last minute!!
